200 ARROWS - From weapons to tools
Supporting women's Shelters and violence prevention in Berlin

For the project ‘200 Arrows (SEWING TOGETHER’, which forms part of her exhibition SEWING (9 Sept. – 31 Oct. 2026) at the Miettinen Collection in Berlin, the artist Hannah Hallermann has collected 200 arrows from archery clubs and private archers. These are second-hand arrows that have already been shot, having either hit or missed their target, and which she has repaired and repurposed in her studio.

They now each take on a new function in the form of an oversized needle – that is to say, destruction is replaced by creation and the bringing together of things: something that could separate or injure becomes something that connects.
Hannah Hallermann works in the field of contemporary art with a focus on materials that carry history; thus, ribbons from Hallermann’s Jewish family heirlooms pass through the large needle eyes, including, amongst other things, old curtains belonging to her great-aunt, which were torn apart by bomb blasts during the war and were mended at the time with floral embroidery to make them usable again – a personal and collective past, in other words, that is translated into the present. It is this craftsmanship and the pragmatic attitude of the women in her family that have left a lasting impression on Hallermann and shaped her own work; it is therefore not surprising that she wishes to highlight socio-political issues and the difficult living conditions faced by women in our society.
Every single needle forms part of an edition which the artist is offering for sale to raise funds for the protection of women who are subjected to violence. The edition consists of 200 pieces, with each arrow priced at 500 € (plus 35€ VAT). Buyers decide for themselves where their contribution goes: to the Caritas women’s refuges in Berlin or to ‘Wegweiser’, a perpetrator prevention project that tackles the root causes of violence.

The aim is for the 200 arrows is to raise a total 100,000 euros, all of which will be donated to the Berlin women's shelter run by Caritas, and to Wegweiser, a perpetrator prevention project by selbst.bestimmt e.V.
